Philly Diner in Essington

First of all I'd like to say that my waitress just fine. That was the best part. The menu is a good menu. The food it's pretty mediocre. While I was there, it seemed as if there are more people on staff then there were customers in the dining area. When you run a diner oh, you have to have food that was not precooked and you can't be stingy with things that are the standard Comfort Foods. I got an omelet that cost nearly $10 and it wasn't even made with eggs that they broke open make my meal. It was obvious they have a picture of egg mix. My hash browns though they were browned we're not hot. Only way you can do that as if it was precooked then reheated. As Diner go, you might want to try the Denny's right next door. At least at Denny's oh, you know what you're going to get. Can't say it would be better food but at least you get the impression that you're trying a little bit harder.

I admire this restaurant! They serve great food, their menu is large, The chief cook in that spot is very experienced, I enjoy a lot trying all their dishes. The food is always of high qualtity, the attitude towards the clients is agreeable. I often eat in this restaurant and I was never unhappy. I recommend it to all my friends.

A little slow serving food for 4 or more people but it's good and tasty when you do get it.

This is a very nice place to eat. Our server was very attentive. We had the Philly Diner Cheesesteak and they were very flavorful. Took home some cake that looks delicious. Talking to the owner, delightful guy, he makes them himself. Worth stopping by.

Service was horrible, the food was cold and they messed up 1/3 of our orders. With all the diners in the area, find another.

Good service, food was alright at a fair value.

At first we avoided the place it looked dark and scary from the outside but Ibwas convinces ti give it a try. Reviews were not that good either but if one thing we’ve learned is not to judge a book by its cover and I’m glad Inteied it. Service by Mona was exceptional, food was delicious, big portions and very well presented.

I very much loved their food and customer service, awesome area to my apartment. The cashiers are always super friendly. Will come back again.

Horrible. Waited 20 mins to even be asked what we wanted to drink. Blame orders not being taken on a broken toaster...but that shouldnt prevent the eggs from being cooked or pancakes from being flipped. This is a joke. I should have gone to wawa for an egg n bacon bowl. Our actual waitress is nice though and very sorry for wait..

The place is nice and the food is good, but I arrived with a large party of 14 and the waiter and manager couldn't get everyone's order straight. They kept asking us over and over to repeat our orders and still didn't get everyone's correct.

Terrible service with even worse food. The wait staff is rude and when my order was still wrong for the 4th time I sent it back they treated me like a hostile customer. Definitely will never eat here again. Dennys is right next door and Mel's diner is right down the road. Even if those better options weren't available I still could not with a clear conscience recommend any one to eat here. Just keep driving and avoid this place at a costs.

The food was excellent and the pouring were very plentiful. The price was very reasonable.

We were unsure because of the mixed reviews, and we hadn’t been here in years!! However, we both really enjoyed our meals! I had chicken and waffles, my husband had a traditional eggs/potatoes/meats/toast breakfast and everything was cooked very well. Serving size was large enough for me to bring half of my meal home. Our server was excellent and the workers all seemed pleasant. We will definitely be back.

Do not go here the food is disgusting, the place smells like they used a dirty mop on the floors...yuk!

The sign out front shows that they open at 6 AM. I showed up at 4:30 AM on Saturday morning and they were open. Having the Philly Diner Signature Skillet. It hasn't arrived at my table yet but I'm going to assume that it is going to be great. The only issue that I had was the employees smoking on the sidewalk five feet from the entrance. Lots of cigarette butts on the ground and it smelled like cigarette smoke on the way inn and out.

A really good dinner, diamond in the rough. Food was super good and fast, coffee was hot and strong.

Have been there a few times when I'm in town for work. I plan on going back. Pros: good price, kind staff, not too busy. Cons: food is not fantastic, but it's a diner. I haven't seen a review that mentions their fantastic cookies for sale at the front counter. My favorite is the marshmellow cookie. Never had those before I went there, and when I had my first I devoured the whole box in about 5 minutes.

Food was absolutely good me in my family enjoyed it they were so nice to if I was u I would go there instead of Denny’s

The food is consistently well prepared and delightful, cashiers gives excellent customer service. I love the cleanliness and vibes. Highly recommended.

Our waitress was very pleasant and ensured that our dining was top notch. She even provide musical entertainment buy singing Little Red Corvette by Prince. We will come here again

I was here for the first time New Year's Day even though the place was busy the my husband and i were greeted and sat as soon as we came in. The server Jackie was so sweet .and made sure ourocups we're never empty.the food was awesome . I had a turkey club and onion rings . Turkey was real roasted fresh turkey and onion rings we're cooked perfect also came with the best dip I ever had. My husband had the chipbeef also really good with hash browns cooked to perfection. The diner was clean and cheerful we will definitely be back.

Excellent. Stopped here on a whim and was very pleased.Grilled Chix Salad was fresh and well presented. Very large portion and variety of veggies.Others in my party had meatball sub and that was very good as well.Service was great and friendly.Clean environment made for a very satisfying visit.I did not have any but the offerings of homemade cakes and sweets for dessert was huge.Check the pics...wish this place was closer to home.

The food at this dinner is always great however the wait is always excruciatingly long compared to other dinners around the area. It seems that they are low on staff but I will say I really do enjoy their food and customer service.

They were open Christmas day but they should have stayed closed the service was horrible they had 1 server that I guess was his first day and 1 cook and some other customers had to wait over an hour to get there food and once they got there food it wasn't theres it was all wrong so they left the place and so did others. Not well maintained and under staffed. The food was ok but I will never go there again. You're better off going to denny's I should have known something was fishy when we walked in and only 6 customers were inside and oh the server pulls out a lose leaf paper to get the order

Still the best Creamed Chipped Beef I've ever had. Yes that includes mine and I'm a damn goof cook.

The negative reviews here don't make sense. i had a fabulous meal here. A reuben melt with good quality corned beef and good french fries. Was served very quickly.I will be back tomorrow for breakfast before I leave town.

I want to give this place more stars, but the owner really doesn't care. The menu describes salads, you order a salad and it's NOTHING like the menu. Iceberg is not a substitute for mixed greens. If I wanted to dice my own tomatoes I would stay at home. The hard boiled egg was over cooked. Green peppers aren't olives.... his excuse, "sometimes we have to use what's delivered" as a previous GM , no. You order what you need!! The delivery company doesn't just bring you whatever they want. Take some pride in your establishment! Dust your window sills, polish your silver, wipe down your booths! Your servers shouldn't care more than you do.

Was in on Christmas morning and has a wonderful breakfast considering the owner gave his entire staff off and him and his family waited on and cooked the food. Corn beef hash was crispy, as well as the bacon. Coffee was fresh and hot. Very clean and quite. Would love to visit again and try lunch !

It needed a good Clorox wipe down if tables and floor. Looks like it was good back in its day. Food was good server and host was friendly. I wish they didn't play techno house music in the morning. I just wanted a quiet breakfast. I had a booth with broken seat springs. Flies made me loose my appetite but coffee was good.

I love diners... something about being a Jersey girl. Sadly, this one didn't quite hit the hometown notes. That's the reason it took so long to write a review.It was mid-afternoon, and hardly anyone was there... so why was service so slow? There were a few items listed on a card on the table that they didn't have. The food was decent, but not out of the ordinary.Decent place in a pinch, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

Whatever the morning rush don't eat they freeze it for later in the day, and then they reheat the food. That's plain trifling. I will drive to WaWa better choices.

I ordered cream chipped beef it was okHowever. What she ordered was not to good.. her eggs well so well done to me scrambled they were close to being burned half slice of cheese. Smh

I can't believe that I've passed by for so many years and had never stopped in. The crew was wonderful along with great food. I will surely be stopping by again.

I always like to try the "iconic" American diners. This one was worth the trip. It reminded me of a place my dad used to take me. Dad must have loved the food there, because it's the only place he ever ate that didn't serve beer. The Philly Diner has a pleasant, laid-back atmosphere. The server was attentive. The menu is similar to Dennys (just down the street), traditional breakfast fare, sandwiches, meat and potatoes. I had the grilled chicken St Louis and onion rings. It's a huge sandwich with all the fixins. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We met with friends at this spot for lunch. we heard about this place from many people. Well, we were not disappointed. The staff were extremely nice and we had an excellent feeling. The food was just great. We had a great time and we will definitely return to this restaurant. We recommend this place to all.
